John began sailing at the young age of eleven at the Riverton Yacht Club on the Jersey banks of the Delaware river. The following year he was recruited by Bob and Sterling Bush to crew on their boat in the Lightning class. Ever since I have been racing up and down the East coast as well and internationally at the 2007 Lightning Worlds in Piraeus, Greece. Without the mentoring of Cappy, Tina, Bob, Sterling, Dick, And Helen I wouldn’t have had the confidence in my seamanship skills to embark on such a voyage.
I have been mechanically and horticulturally inclined for as long as I can remember and then some. I have been hard at work beautifying Moorestown alongside my mother, Alberta and father, Heinrich for the last 15 years. I have been so lucky to have such supportive parents whom without I would have never applied to Cornell and have never become such and accomplished sailor as well as rower. In High school I played football for two years before joining the Newly formed Moorestown rowing club and medaling in such notable races as the Stotesbury cup and Schoolboy nationals. I was accepted at Cornell in 2003 and completed my Bachelors of Science in Landscape Architecture in 2007. While at Cornell I helped devise a watering system for the Solar Decathlon house of 2005. I rowed for Cornell’s lightweight team for four years and gold medaled sophomore year in the third varsity and placed second in 2007 as well. I would like to thank all my family, friends, mentors, and especially my girlfriend, Mackenzie Waro all of which have been so encouraging and resourceful since the beginning stages of the voyage,
To date my travels include Australia, Germany, Greece, Mexico, the Virgin Islands, Austria, and Canada as well as all of the eastern seaboard of the USA and Wisconsin.
